I first heard about this book when I started subbing years ago. A librarian read it to her class and the kids LOVED it. I thought, that is a great book to keep on hand as a substitute teacher and it has proven to be just as useful as a caregiver. The book is about an elephant and a piggy that realize they are inside of a book and a reader (you and the kids) are reading them! They realize this and then panic because they become sad that the book will end. With humor and a fun twist, this book makes all kids laugh and smile and usually they say “again!” right after you finish. Because the book is different from any other children’s books I’ve read, it grips the kids and they are interested. The perspective of elephant and piggy are adorable and also fairly smart as they realize what is going on. Real-life kids both inside and outside my classroom have all LOVED it, some say they have read it before since it won an award, but they always always want to read it again. It’s a great resource to pull out in front of parents as they are leaving to engage the children and comfort the parents. I highly recommend buying on Amazon for only about $6. Use and enjoy!
