I bought a pack of plastic mini sports balls (basketball, soccer ball, football) from Marshall’s for $10 a couple weeks ago, and tried them out last night with a 2.5 year old boy. He absolutely loved them!!! We took them out on some grass outside the hotel and he was chasing after them, throwing them all around, and kicking them all over the place. We even made a new friend with someone who wanted to play with us, so it provided a good opportunity for a lesson in sharing. We played with them for about an hour, so these toys are great at holding children’s interest for a long time. I’m sure they could be used with kids of older ages too. You could even use these to play games like Steal the Bacon. These don’t pose a choking hazard, so it would also work to roll the different shapes back and forth with an older baby, who’s able to sit on their own. This is a versatile toy to keep in your caregiver bag for sure!
I imagined that they would be small and squishy enough to use inside a large hotel room if a guest asked me to stay inside with their child, but after the couple of seconds it took him to take them out of my bag and start throwing them around the room, I’m not so sure that’s a good idea. These toys are also great to help get children’s energy out. After playing, the boy was ready for bed!
This is a fantastic toddler or preschool toy that will provide lots of physical activity for the kiddos in your care, hand and eye coordination skill improvement, and fun, which is the most important aspect for a toddler. These don’t take up a lot of space in your caregiver bag, and are handy to bring out if separation anxiety is an issue.
