“No Problem At All”

To the concierge at the US Grant Hotel:

I wanted to let you know that my daughters and I enjoyed our stay at the US Grant immensely. The hotel is beautiful and the staff was outstanding. Most of all, we appreciated your referral to Marion’s Childcare. I was traveling on business and needed a sitter for my two daughters during the day. Amy Gray was very responsive and wonderful to work with. Unfortunately, I booked the wrong dates with her and did not discover my error until the morning of my first meeting. When I contacted Amy, she was unfazed, and quickly located a wonderful sitter for my daughters.

Truly, she went above and beyond the call of duty and turned a potential disaster into “no problem at all.” My daughters had a wonderful time in San Diego. Miss Linda had them out of the hotel every day exploring the city and going swimming. She also brought fun crafts and activities for them to do at the hotel. It all turned our perfectly: I got my work done knowing that my daughters were being well cared for and they had a fun vacation in a wonderful city. Thank you!!!

Sincerely,

Susan Duff

Joshua and Jennifer

‎”Joshua had a great time. Jennifer, our caregiver from Marion’s Childcare, was courteous, professional, and a great help to me while I was in conferences all day. She and Joshua took in all sorts of fun activities including the zoo, the Children’s Museum, Belmont Park and the USS Midway museum. Joshua can’t wait to visit San Diego again, and we will definitely be return customers with Marion’s Childcare.” – Jennifer, Canada

Kids at San Diego’s Joan Kroc Salvation Army Center | San Diego Childcare

The Salvation Army Kroc center is an amazing place! It is a 12.4 acre facility located on University Avenue in San Diego. It was opened on June 19, 2002 thanks to the generous donation by Joan Kroc, one of the founders of McDonald’s restaurants. Mrs. Kroc had heard her family talk about how the Salvation Army  helped families through the depression, and has been impressed with the organization ever since. She has taken that fondness and grown it into a multi-faceted community center. Her donations have truly been made into a place for kids and adults to enrich their lives, find after school sanctuary, and worship the Lord.
There is definitely something for everyone when it comes to activities available at the Kroc center. The aquatic center has 3 heated pools, one of which is kept at an exotic 96 degrees to be used as a therapy pool for the elderly and infants. The 56,000 square foot gymnasium has a professional size basketball court as well as volleyball and gymnastics. There is also a recreation area which offers foosball, video games, and table tennis. The center also, almost unbelievably, has the only NHL regulation sized ice arena in Southern San Diego county! There, members and their guests will be able to learn to skate or play ice hockey. They also have youth and adult hockey leagues. While you are there, don’t forget to try the 30 foot rock climbing tower or the indoor skatepark.
Not only does the Kroc center provide a safe haven for after-school activities, they also have an extensive array of ways for adults and kids to improve their lives through education. There are a number of art classes available for all ages. Try your hand at a hip hop or ballet class, or maybe, take some music or voice instruction. For those interested in theater arts, the Kroc center has acting and performance art classes as well. The center even has a high quality theater where students will be able to show off their skills to a large audience. For the adults, there are some more serious classes to gain knowledge in. You can enroll in nutrition classes, parenting classes, and even financial management classes. For families that need assistance, the Kroc center has many resources available. From free family literacy nights to emergency food assistance, the Kroc can help in so many ways. It is incredible how many aspects of the community’s needs were able to be filled with Mrs. Kroc’s vision.
Just by visiting the Kroc as a guest, or by signing up to be a member, you’ll be helping other families that may not be as fortunate. If you’re looking for a fun family night out, the Kroc Kids will be performing the musical, A Christmas Carol, on December 10-12. Contact the website for show times and more information. There will also be a community Christmas party on Wednesday, December 15th. Or, you can always attend the Kroc church services on Sundays, where I’m sure you will find a welcoming atmosphere and an inspiring reverence for our Lord. Thank you Joan Kroc for the awesome gift you have given San Diego through the Salvation Army Kroc center!

Loews Coronado Bay Resort with Kids | San Diego Hotel Childcare

Welcome to the first in a series of reports about San Diego’s finest hotels . . . from the viewpoint of the hotel childcare provider!  Our reporter, Heather, takes on the Loews Coronado Bay Resort this time, pointing out the best activities for kids and families (and babysitters!) to enjoy when visiting the Loews.  Look forward to more reports in this series as we feature other great San Diego locations!

The Loews Coronado Bay Resort is ranked one of Parents magazines “10 best beach resorts for families.”  I can tell you from personal experience that is definitely a fitting moniker.   It is located just steps from the Silver Strand state beach, which recently has been ranked as second best in the country by the Travel Channel. The location is absolutely gorgeous and there is no shortage of activities when it comes to making sure your family has a memorable vacation. The hotel itself offers an awesome beach going experience. There is a shuttle that will take you directly from the front doors of the hotel over to the Silver Strand. The shuttle ride alone is a joyride for kids of all ages. I found myself wearing a large grin as the wind blew on my face in the open air riding experience. The children were having a great time, laughing and saying hi to everyone.
The shuttle took us under a pedestrian walkway filled with jovial paintings of sea creatures and then landed us almost on the sand itself. There is a restroom located within feet of the shuttle exit. There is also an area provided by the hotel which generously allows lending of any and all beach equipment you will possibly need. They have towels, chairs, boogie boards, and sand toys for the little ones. When you are ready to head back, simply let the hotel employee know and they will send for the shuttle to pick you up. Once back at the hotel, the kids all wanted to go to the pool. The pool also provided a grand time. We walked out into the pool area and there were families playing ping pong and having a great time in the sun. There

were plenty of well padded lounge chairs to choose from and another place to get towels. Once seated, I had a clear view of the children both in the pool and in the Jacuzzi. It didn’t take long for us to be greeted by a friendly hotel employee with a delicious offering of frozen grapes. The kids jumped out of the pool and enjoyed the grapes together. There is also a service through which you can order delicious poolside snacks or meals right from the comfort of your chair!

If  you are in town for business or any other reason you can’t take the kids along, the hotel has a teacher supervised kids camp, which is offered in half day or full day lengths. The activities are age appropriate and do include lunch. For your older children, there is a very cool teen lounge, which was designed by Pottery Barns PBteens. It features Guitar Hero World Tour, comfy loungers, ipod friendly chairs and other video games.  I was highly impressed with both the service and the amenities offered by the Loews Coronado Bay Resort. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with children. You’ll have a hard time running out of things to do with your kids while staying at the Loews. The location of the hotel also provides a perfect summation of San Diego’s beauty and world renowned climate.
